Disneyland Trip - (January 19th, 2004)

What a great day!

We got tickets to see a taping of LIVE with Regis and Kelly. It was at California Adventure. We were suppose to check in about 10-10:30. Our plan was to get up early, got on the road by 7am to get to the parks by 8am (Disneyland opened at 9, but we thought it was 8). We ended up leaving about 7:50, luckily there was NO traffic (which is quite rare for a Monday morning). Arrived at the parking structure at 8:40am. Great time, I dont think its ever taken less than an hour to get there.

We got a great parking spot, right across from the escalator. Got on the tram and headed over to the parks. We heard the announcement on the tram that Disneyland was opening at 9, not 8, so we were thrilled that we didnt miss that critical 'first hour'. It really is the most productive time of the day. You can get in many of the popular rides before the crowds hit. We rode the Matterhorn first, 2 minute wait. Then we saw that there was NO line for Dumbo, so hopped on that. We have not ridden Dumbo in a very long time, the line is usually very long and it moves very slowly! So we enjoyed riding it.

From there we took the back way over towards Pirates of the Caribbean. We skipped this ride last trip, and wanted to ride. No line at all - we walked right on. Many empty boats. We rode Indiana Jones next, had about a 5 minute line there. It was now almost 10 s so we decided to go see how the Regis and Kelly thing was working. Got our potty break out of the way and left Disneyland. We were told to meet outside the main gate to California Adventure to get our info for the show taping.

There was no wait, we just went up to a table, gave the lady our voucher and were given tickets into California Adventure (that we dont need because we are Annual Passholders - the tickets were good for that day only, so we didnt even take them). She also gave us door prize tickets (for the trivia game thing). They gave us bracelets to wear that would allow us into the taping. I only got tickets for 2, so we needed one more. This lady could not give us an additioanl bracelet so she told us to ask at the entrance if he could come in. She said they had about 200 seats for standby guests so she didnt think it would be a problem. We wandered over and found the line to get in for seats. They did allow my son in, so we all got to sit together. We were pretty far back in the audience, about half way back. We couldnt see much, they had a screen, but we couldnt really see that either. It was really fun to be there, however. If you looked real close between everyones heads ahead of us you could see them on stage. Their guests were Ashton Kutcher (who my daughter absolutely loves) and John Cryer of 2.5 Men. They were both great guests. Our show is going to be aired on Wednesday, January 21. We were shown twice in the audience shots, so it will be fun to try to see ourselves.

The weather was absolutely perfect, low to mid 70s. Perfect for a day at Disney! After the show taping we wanted to eat. My son has some food allergies and its tough to find things for him, but McDonalds is one thing he can eat. They have a McDonalds over near the Mullhulland Madness ride, so we went there. The kids did ride the Mullhulland ride first. We figured out that this McDonalds is just over double what a regular McDonalds charges. A hamburger happy meal was $4.59. A Big Mac with fries was $5.69. A medium size drink was $2.49. So it was a little outrageous, but isnt it all??

Next the kids rode the Orange Stinger (swings that go around inside a super big orange), then my daughter rode the free fall ride. She loves it! From there we wandered over by the games (carnival style games). I told the kids they could each try one game. My son actually won a prize! He played Skeeball and scored high enough to get a small stuffed snake - very cute. Laker colors! My daughter didnt win, but that was ok - dont think she really cared. We got a fast pass for California Screamin' then went over to the Redwood Creek raft ride. My kids just love it - you get soaked, but they like it. It was warm enough that they could ride it. They got pretty wet, but didnt mind. Some people came off that ride soaked to the skin! It was now time for our Fast Pass, so we walked back over to California Screamin' The line took us about 5 minutes. Great ride! We all love it.

It was now about 3pm. We figured we could beat some of the traffic if we left now, so thats what we did. We did stop and buy a couple things on the way out. I got the kids each a pin. My son found a cute one of Pluto on Mullhulland Madness, and my daughter chose a Cheshire cat. We got dad a cute little mickey notepad holder for his desk, and I got myself a soccerball mickey head antenna ball and a pair of red gloves (with mickey logo on them). The kids got some cotton candy and we were on our way to the tram. It was a wonderful day!

Positive things: Getting there early enough to walk on to many of the 'popular' rides. Getting to see the LIVE with Regis and Kelly taping, getting to see Ashton Kutcher, too. Being at Disneyland and Disneys california Adventure is always positive! Great parking spot, great weather, too.

Negatives: Cant really think of anything at all.

Overall: Wonderful day! A nice way to spend a day off.
